QnA: There is no relationship between language, society, and sociolinguistics?

I disagree with the statement "There is no relationship between language, society, and sociolinguistics". Why? Because the relationship between language and society is significant and established. Language has multiple functions in society, and society also uses language for the purposes. The other one will be impacted if one disappears.

Furthermore, language is the key instrument for communicating, establishing peace and order in our society, demonstrating authority and power, and achieving goals and objectives. On the other hand, if we used incorrectly, it has the potential to destroy civilization. To prevent conflicts and to meet the border of individual diversity, it must adapt to the conformity that controls society.

Gender, religion, location, social class and status, education, employment, ethnicity, nationality, and identity are all aspects of sociolinguistics. Language, like culture, is always evolving each other.

Answer Version 2:

Sociolinguistics itself is the field that studies the relationship between language and society, between the uses of language and social structures in which the users of the language live. That’s why, I think I disagree with the topic mentioned above. For examples:

Two English strangers start talking about the weather. There are two possibilities why they starting a conversation about the weather:

- First, It can be quite embarrassing to be alone with a stranger and not speak to them. The situation also can become strained. By talking like that it’s possible to strike up a relationship without saying much. This is one of the examples, language is not simply a means of communicating information, but also establishing and maintaining relationships with other people.

-Second, it’s quite possible the first person who started the conversation would like to get to know certain things about the other person. It can be his job or social status to know how to behave in front of him. This shows that language can also be used for conveying information about the speaker.

These two aspects of linguistic behavior are facts that there is a close inter-relationship between language and society.

Answer Version 3:

I'm afraid I have to disagree with the statement above. The relationship between language, society, and sociolinguistics is very close. Language performs various functions in society, and society does the same. If one is missing, the other will be affected. Language is the primary tool for communication, establishing peace and order in our society, demonstrating authority and power, and achieving goals and objectives. Language shapes social interaction, and social interaction shapes language.

Then Sociolinguistics provides guidelines on the relationship between language and society and how people use language in different social situations. Bram and Dickey (in Rokhman, 2002) state that sociolinguistics focuses on how language functions in society, explaining the human ability to play language rules appropriately in various situations. If we are children in a family, of course, we have to use a different variety/style of language if the other person is our father, mother, brother, or sister. If we are a student, of course, we have to use a variety/style of language that is different from the teacher, classmates, or fellow students whose class is higher.

Language, society, and sociolinguistics meet at one point, meaning that language, society, and sociolinguistics, which guide language and society, will never be separated.

Answer 4:

I disagree with that opinion. Because language, society and sociolinguistics are related to each other. In a life there can be no society without language and there can be no language without society. Likewise, language and sociolinguistics each have an important role in communicating in a society.

As the source I read from https://blogmadyawati.wordpress.com/2015/09/06/sosiolinguistik-peranan-bahasa-dalam-masyarakat/ explains that the function of language in general is as a means of social communication. And as a vehicle for us to interact with other people. Therefore, language cannot be separated from society. Reporting from the Wikipedia source, Sociolinguistics is a subdiscipline of linguistics that studies the relationship between language and society. In other words, sociolinguistics studies the use and use of language, the place of language use, the grammar of language levels, the various consequences of the contact of two or more languages, and the variety and time of using language varieties. Therefore, the three are interrelated.

In society we need to communicate by using language, and in that communication someone will adjust the way they speak to their social situation or the use of language in accordance with the situation of society. Examples of the application of sociolinguistics include language as social behavior as explained by Suseno (1991) Javanese people in using Javanese will always be bound by unggah-ungguh (language manners) which reflects the "role-relationship" between language users as a value that must exist in the use of the language.

From my personal opinion I disagree with the argument "There is no relationship between language, society, and sociolinguistics",
