Daftar film terbaik ini dibuat berdasarkan polling yang dilakukan BBC kepada para responden di 177 negara. Para responden tersebut berasal dari berbagai latar belakang seperti media cetak (koran atau majalah), media online, para akademisi dan kurator bioskop terpercaya di seluruh dunia.
